Surfing

The spray was a major feature today so I decided to use it rather than avoid it.

The off-shore wind is really strong here.

Today I was concentrating on shooting 'Wipeouts' for an ebook.

I like the difference in colour as the sand gets drawn up into the wave and changes the blue to green.

After a windy night I headed south down to Curl Curl beach hoping for some decent waves. I wasn't disappointed but was nearly washed off the rocks. Surfing today was not for the faint-hearted.

Wipeout!!

I borrowed Mike's 800mm mirror lens to do some arty shots. You get what you pay for… bought cheaply from China on a whim. The lens quality is not of a good enough standard for professional work but it's ok for Art! The typical doughnut bokeh effect is quite pleasant.

Back to a real lens.

These next few pics were taken on my last day in Aus. This guy wanted to enter the water gracefully with his GoPro camera in order to photograph the riders in the heavy surf. Unfortunately the large swell took him unawares and he got swept off into the rocks. Luckily for him he was unhurt.

"Danger? What danger? This is fun!"

The surf was pounding the swimming pool and these kids were taking advantage of the large breakers by body surfing down the length of the pool.

Back down to Dee Why beach to further my 'photo-surfing' skills. Thought I'd try something different again today. The arty pics are all done with Lightroom 5.5 What a wonderful programme!
